Here's what's coming up, plus a few free resources to explore in the meantime.

Upcoming Virtual CE Trainings for Therapists and Social Workers

Reclaiming Counternarratives: Telesupervisors' Role in Supporting Diverse Trainees

Friday, October 23, 2026 · 10:00 AM-12:00 PM · Virtual · $75

We're excited to welcome Dr. Nadia Alsamadi, a clinical psychologist and founder of Beyond the Binary Psychotherapy and Consulting, PLLC, who is presenting this session through the Multicultural Counseling Institute. Telesupervisors will learn strategies to build a strong working alliance with marginalized trainees, address how master narratives shape trainees' clinical identity and well-being, and collaborate with trainees to develop counternarratives grounded in their own strengths and culture.

CE credits are provided by the D.C. Board of Social Work and Continuing Education of Illinois. The Multicultural Counseling Institute is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Full attendance is required for credit.

Friday, January 8, 2027 · 2:30-5:30 PM · Virtual · $75 · 3 Ethics Cat I CEs

We're co-facilitating this workshop with Lisa Sherper, LICSW, LCSW, LCSW-C. Together, we'll look at recent research on gender imbalances in couples therapy and the tendency of therapists to uphold that imbalance, even though the NASW Code of Ethics calls on us to support social justice, do no harm, and uphold dignity and worth, self-determination, and cultural competence. You'll be invited to explore your own feelings, reactions, attitudes, and beliefs about working with heterosexual couples.

CE credits for social workers are provided by the D.C. Board of Social Work and Continuing Education of Illinois. Register here.

The Podcast

Beyond live trainings, Lisa's podcast digs into clinical topics, practice-building, and the kind of conversations that don't always make it into a formal CE curriculum but shape how good therapists actually think. Listen to the podcast.

Bring a Little Play Into Your Practice

The skills that make us good improvisers are the same ones that make us good partners, friends, parents, and colleagues: listening, mutual support and trust, willingness to take risks, collaboration, the ability to lead and follow, and a sense of spontaneity and fun. We've adapted a set of improv games for therapy and group work, and a few of our favorites are:

  • Zen Count: silently counting to 21 as a group builds frustration tolerance

  • Yes, Move: a name-calling circle swap that trains impulse control and attention

  • Copy Cat: retelling each other's stories deepens listening and connection

  • Calvinball: unstructured free play reveals anxieties around control

Download the Improv Games, or explore them on the Resources page.
